Bright Horizons Wouldn't Exist without Our Donors
Although Bright Horizons charges a fee for each lesson, and is extremely diligent in keeping it's administrative costs low, rider revenue alone can not support the overall cost of the program.
The Challenges of Being a Rural-based Non-profit
As with many non-profits, securing sufficient funding to cover operating expenses is a never-ending challenge. This seems to be especially true for organizations based in rural or low density population areas such as the Central Oregon Coast. (A challenge further exacerbated by the scarcity of large local corporate and business sponsors.) Although we serve an important segment of the community, not everyone realizes what it takes to sustain a well-run program.
Approximate Program Operating Expenses for (1) Year
Total operating costs can vary from year-to-year depending upon horse care needs, equipment requirements and other variable expenses. Our current annual budget anticipates that approximately $70,000 will be needed to fund our program for 2010. This includes all expenses associated with: the care and feeding of our (5) horses, our facility lease, providing lessons for 25+ riders each session, staffing, and other operating costs. Approximately 20% of these expenses will be offset by rider revenue. All other expenses will need to be covered by a combination of grants, donations and fund raising activities.
If You'd like to Help Support a Specific Function
A small donation can make a BIG difference: $15 and up
Many people would be surprised to learn how much of an impact a heartfelt donation can make to an organization of our size.
$15 can purchase any number of items that are used in our horse care kits. Items likes a curry comb, or a grooming brush, or maybe even a couple jumbo-sized bags of carrots so that our riders can reward their well-deserving equine partners after each lesson. <smile>
$25, in the hands of one of our creative instructors, can go a long, long way in purchasing many of the everyday items that we use to provide tactile challenges and fun learning experiences to some of our riders with special needs.
$50 can easily provide for the nutritional supplements that keep several of our "senior" herd members healthy and happy.
$100 dollars can buy close to a half ton of hay... how cool is that!
So no matter the amount
A donation of any size (along with the sentiments that accompany it) is ALWAYS appreciated by the entire Bright Horizons family.
To offer a scholarship to (1) rider for a (10) week
As you can well imagine, the costs associated with a special needs adult or child can be daunting. Sponsoring a rider for a full (or partial) session will allow you to help enrich the life of a person that our organization might not otherwise be able to serve.
To feed the entire herd for (4) months: $1,500
This covers the costs of orchard grass hay for all five of our horses for approximately six full months. Sponsorships of this nature are particularly important, and appreciated, as they allow us to make bulk purchases at discounted prices.
To maintain (1) horse for (1) year:
This covers daily hay, grain, bedding, nutritional supplements, farrier and veterinarian services, etc. for a single horse for a full year. Each person or organization that sponsors an individual equine therapist receives the following: a plaque on the horse's stall acknowledging the important contribution you've made to our program; periodic updates on the activities that your sponsored horse is involved with; and a chance to visit our facilities for an in-person introduction to your new equine friend.
To provide care for our entire herd for (1) year:
This covers daily hay, grain, bedding, nutritional supplements, farrier and veterinarian services, etc. for all of our horses for a full (52) weeks. Not to mention that a "dedicated donation" such as this allows us to focus our attention on further developing our program - comfortable in the knowledge that the needs of our equine friends have been met in advance.
To help subsidize each of our riders for (1)
Each and every rider that participates in a Bright Horizons program is partially subsidized by the organization. This is simply the nature of a therapeutic riding center. A donation of this level would allow Bright Horizons to continue offering a broad range of programs to our ever-growing rider population.
To support the entire program for (1) full year:
A donation of this size would allow Bright Horizons to devote all of its subsequent yearly funding support to: further improving our facilities (to better serve our riders), increasing our ridership levels (which would increase our degree of self-sufficiency), retiring several long-term financial obligations (debts associated with our initial start-up efforts), as well as increase our community outreach efforts (fund raising and awareness efforts).
